A Little Lunch Time Geocaching

May 8th, 2008

I haven’t been out geocaching since last summer, and I have been going crazy in the office lately. I decided to take some time today, load up a few waypoints in my GPS and find a few geocaches. It was really nice to get out for a little bit. Of the three I found all were within a couple miles of work, and two were at Hoyt Park, within a few several hundred yards of each other.

Today I found:

Geocaching Saturday!

August 27th, 2007

IMG_0060.JPGWe haven’t been out for a geocaching trip all summer, so Saturday morning I loaded up a couple caches into my GPS and the kids and Sarah and I went out looking. Sarah wants to do as much walking as she can bear to try to get the baby out, so she was game for all the walking it took.
The first one we just couldn’t find. After about twenty minutes of looking we gave up. The kids played on some playground equipment at the park we ended up at for a bit, then we headed out. However, Sunday I was logging our visits on the geocaching web site and it turns out someone had been to the cache before us and found it laying on the ground. All the rain we’ve been having must have washed the container from it’s hiding spot. After reading the log and the description of where this person had put the cache the kids and I took the dog and went back out. It didn’t take long for us to find our treasure!
The second cache on Saturday was much more successful. It consisted of a short walk through a prairie, then into a wooded area. The cache was hidden nicely under some rocks and sticks. This one was very kid friendly, and very fun.

I took the picture of Jack with my iPhone while Sarah was helping the kids open the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìCuckoo’s Nest” cache. Some more photos are in the Flickr Set.
