I think I’m going to excommunicate the Catholic Church now
What the fuck is this? I’ve had enough.
I went to Catholic school for 7 years. It sucked. I had a few good teachers but for the most part I hated it. I can only hope public school was better but at my school classes were setup based on how much money your parents gave to the parish. My family wasn’t rich. The school never came out and told us as much, but by the time we got into middle school everyone knew. The rich kids and the kids whose parents were very active in the parish were in one class and the rest of us were in another. For the record each grade had 40-50 kids, split into 2 classes. The split classes were often referred to as the dumb kids and the smart kids.
My bitterness really started in the 8th grade. In 7th grade my family had moved out of state and then we came back after a year. I went in on my first day of 8th grade to speak to my teacher and I noticed the same pre-algebra book I had used the prior year on her desk. I asked if that was the book we would be using and she said no, it was an ?¢‚Ǩ?ìadvanced” book. I explained that I thought that odd because I had used that book the year before and had gotten A’s and B’s in math. She then told me she may take a few problems from the book but as a whole it was too advanced for my class. She then took the book and put it away. Guess what? The ?¢‚Ǩ?ìsmart” class used that book. Apparently the teachers had decided I would be in the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìdumb” class because my older brother had been in that class. He was never given a fair shake either so he may have deserved to be in that ?¢‚Ǩ?ìsmart” class too.
The story has a happy ending though.
A decade later my little brother was moving up to middle school and would have the same teachers I did. The summer before he started every single teacher who had maintained this status quo over the years was fired. One teacher was saved. It took a while but finally things were set right. Of course, the guy who did it was the new principle who had been forced out of the Catholic high school a few years prior. Apparently he had ruffled a few feathers when he refused to let the parents with the money tell him what classes their kids should be in. It’s also pretty nice knowing that I’m doing a hell of a lot better than most of those ?¢‚Ǩ?ìsmart” kids at 30 years old.
So, back to the article I linked to above. It seems the Catholic Church has decided that since this little girl who cannot eat wheat had a rice wafer for her First Communion the sacrament never happened. Why don’t they just tell her that the reason she has this wheat allergy is because God doesn’t love her? I was talking to my wife about this and a thought came to us. Jesus sat and broke bread with the man who he knew was going to turn him over to the people that would eventually kill him. Do you really think he gives two shits about whether the wafer you eat to praise him is rice based or wheat based?
